Japanese Rice Bag
You’ve learned the basic techniques for Improv quilting, now what’s next? In this “advanced” improv class, Ellyn will help you turn your favorite improv blocks into a fun, usable project bag. Bring your improv blocks from Intro to Improv class or a stack of scraps to make new ones. The first half of class will be spent making an improv “slab” to use as the exterior of your bag.
The second half of class, you will construct your bag using KZStevens Modern Japanese Rice Pouch pattern, and bonus tips from Ellyn who is so in love with this bag, she can’t stop making them! I bet you’ll love it too.

Supplies:
Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies
Modern Japanese Rice Pouch Pattern (pattern purchase is required by each class member)
scraps, improv blocks, whatever you choose to construct your bag exterior panel (3
coordinating fat quarters if you want to start fresh)
1/2 yard of coordinating fabric for bag lining, bottom, tabs and ties
3/4 yard of woven fusible interfacing (SF 101)
coordinating thread and bobbin
optional: perle cotton or embroidery thread to add hand stitched accents, hand sewing needles
and needle threader.

Class prep:
Please iron fabric prior to class if they are tightly rolled or folded.
In the case that you are unable to attend the class, you must cancel at least 5 days prior to class date for a FULL refund.
If you cancel 4 days prior to class, there is a 50% forfeiture fee deducted from your class fee. You may choose to transfer to another class if available, with a $20 transfer fee plus additional registration fee if applicable.
If you cancel 3 days or less prior to class, your class fee is 100% forfeited. Transfer to another class is not available with less than a 3 day cancellation.
