Clothing Fitting Class

Sewing is easy – it’s the fitting that’s hard, especially when you’re fitting yourself! Come get personal fitting help and learn to correct a pattern using a mockup. This class is truly whatever you want it to be – take it as many times as you’d like. Every student may have a
different type of garment and different fitting issues, which means you’ll also have a chance to learn about fitting others just by observing.

BEFORE class:
You will need to make a mockup of your garment. A mockup can be made from muslin, scrap fabric, even a bedsheet! Use a stable fabric that isn’t too drapey, even if your final garment will be. Basically, make it out of inexpensive fabric with no sentimental value, because we will be drawing & writing all over it, and possibly cutting it up. It is just a test prototype and you will not be wearing it in the end.

-You do not need to finish any edges of your mockup – hems and facings will not be needed.
-Do not bother with any linings.
-Zippers do not need to be installed – mockup will be pinned closed.
-Sew the mockup with a longer stitch length (nothing smaller than 3) so it’s easy to open seams while
on the body if necessary.
-Necklines can be basted on the stitchline for finished edge reference and to prevent stretching out of
shape.
-Nothing needs to be clean finished on the inside.
