Spellbound Witch Hat Class

Get ready to add some handmade magic to your Halloween! In this class, you’ll learn how to sew the Spellbound Hat by Polka Dot Chair. Whether you’re making it as part of a costume, as festive décor, or just for a touch of witchy whimsy, this project is fun, creative, and perfect for the season.
The finished hat is approximately 16” tall by 20” wide. The interior circle has a 22-23” inch circumference. It fits “most” adults and includes instructions to slightly size the hat for a smaller circumference head. This hat is not intended for children.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate
You will learn:

Sewing with stabilizer and interfacing

Creating and shaping a 3D project (not just flat sewing)

Following a commercial sewing pattern step by step

Edge finishing for a polished look

Attaching and sewing curved seams

Adding lining for structure and a neat interior
This project can be completed with yardage OR you can make a patchwork fabric.
Supply List:
- Spellbound Witch Hat Pattern by Polka Dot Chair
- 1 Fat Quarter or 1/2 yard fabric for Sash (or 2 yards 1 1/2” wide wired ribbon)
- Soft & Stable 18" x 53"
- 3/4 Yard Craft Fuse P808
- PLUS Basic Sewing Supplies as noted below
For Quilted Witch Hat:
- 3/4 Yard Fabric or 1 1/4 yards fabric if you are using a directional print* for hat top and hat brim.
- 3/4 Yards for hat lining
- One additional Fat Quarter or 1/2 yard fabric for the bias binding on the brim edge
- One additional Fat Quarter or 1/2 yard fabric for bias binding on the center of the brim.
OR
For Patchwork Witch Hat:
- For hat top: 3/4 yard TOTAL fabric in various prints cut into 2 1/2” wide strips. You need at least TEN strips of fabric 2 1/2” x WOF.
- For hat brim: 3/4 yard Fabric
- 3/4 Yards Fabric for hat lining.The underside of the brim will not be patchwork.
- One additional Fat Quarter or 1/2 yard fabric for the bias binding on the brim edge.
- One additional Fat Quarter or 1/2 yard fabric for bias binding on the center of the brim.
Homework:
- Cut and Sew bias binding strips: 60" of brim fabric and 26" of brim lining fabric.
- Quilt fabric before class - instructions on page 4 of the pattern.
- If you are making the Quilted Patchwork Hat option, please have all piecing finished so that you have two patchwork pieces that are 19" x 19" and 16" x 16". These will need to be quilted as instructed on page 4 of the pattern.

If you cancel 4 days prior to class, there is a 50% forfeiture fee deducted from your class fee. You may choose to transfer to another class if available, with a $20 transfer fee plus additional registration fee if applicable. If you cancel 3 days or less prior to class, your class fee is 100% forfeited.
