Mariner's Compass Class

Learn to:

Use and familiarity with the Skinny Robin, 16-point Mariner’s Compass Book & Ruler by Robin Ruth.

Compass construction of any Skinny 16-Point mariner’s compass block. We will make 3 - 14” compass blocks in class

Supply List:

Basic Sewing Supplies noted at the end PLUS
Robin Ruth-Skinny Robin, 16-point Mariner’s Compass Book & Ruler
Robin Ruth-Angle Ruler (not required but strongly suggested for ease)
If you are not purchasing the Angle Ruler, you must bring a 6” x 12” minimum sized ruler with 45° angle lines printed across the middle of the ruler (not at the edges)
5” X 24” quilting ruler
45° Rotary Cutter with NEW blade
Seam guide or 1/4” seam foot to sew perfect 1/4” seams

Fabric Requirements

Background - 1/2 yd. Cut into 4 strips - 4” x WOF
Point 1 - 1/4yd. Cut into 4 strips - 2” x WOF
Point 2 - 1/4 yd.Cut into 3 strips - 2½” x WOF
Point 3 - 1/3 ydCut into 3 strips - 3” x WOF
Background Squares 2 - 6” squares
Center Applique 3 - 4½” squares (consider fussy cutting)
Center Applique 3 - 4½” squares double sided adhesive

To make table runner: pattern will be handed out at class to be completed on your own.

1/3 yd for sashing and borders
1/2 yd for backing
1/4” yd for binding

Class prep:

Precut and label strips as noted above. Please do this prior to class. There will not be time to shop or cut strips in class.

Bring your Basic Sewing Supplies to every class:

Sewing machine w/ electric cord & foot pedal
Sewing machine manual
Sewing machine needles
1/4” seam foot for sewing machine
Spare empty bobbins
Rotary Cutter (45mm is great)
Thread
Snips for clipping thread
Scissors for cutting fabric
Stiletto
Seam Ripper
Medium ruler (at least 6” x 12”)
Heat Resistant straight pins (longer is better)
Flower Head straight pins (heat resistant is best)
Fabric marking pen or pencil, permanent and disappearing
Post-it notes/note pad & pen/pencil
Clover clips

Skill Details:

This class is taught for a confident beginner or intermediate sewist. You must know how to use your sewing machine, use a general quilting ruler and a rotary cutter.

Requirements:

Cancellation Policy Thank you for signing up for a class at Not Your Mama's Quilt Store. Due to the high number of late-notice cancellations, our cancellation policy has been updated: In the case that you are unable to attend the class, you must cancel at least 5 days prior to class date for a FULL refund*. If you cancel 4 days prior to class, there is a 50% forfeiture fee deducted from your class fee. You may choose to transfer to another class if available, with a $20 transfer fee plus additional registration fee if applicable. If you cancel 3 days or less prior to class, your class fee is 100% forfeited. Transfer to another class is not available with less than a 3 day cancellation. *If you paid for a class via PayPal or Credit Card and later need to cancel, a 10% cancellation fee will be deducted to cover service fees charged by PayPal and the credit card processing company.
