Hand appliqué not for you? Learn how to appliqué using your sewing machine. Select 1 of the 12 patterns available from Calendar Quilts and get ready to learn machine appliqué the easy way!

Learn to:

Use your sewing machine’s appliqué stitch, set the correct width & length
Sew around corners, points and rounded edges
Copy and prepare the design for appliqué
Placement and layering of design
 

Supply List:
Basic Sewing Supplies noted HERE
1/4” sewing foot
Applique foot or foot that has opening for zig-zag stitch
Small iron & ironing mat (optional but highly recommended)
Karen K Buckley Perfect Scissors - 6”, available in our store
By Annie’s Stiletto tool, available in our store
Kim Schaefer’s Calendar Quilts, available in our store
Fabric requirements as noted on pattern selected
Lite Steam A Seam 2 amount determined by the pattern you select and listed as "paper backed fusible web," available in our store
Sewing Machine manual (if possible)
Thread in various colors (optional)
80/12 Schmetz Microtext Chrome Finish needles (optional, but highly recommended) 

 

Homework:


 

Sew background prior to class as follows:

 

  • Choose what pattern you would like to make from the pattern book. Purchase fabric as noted on selected pattern.
  • Piece the Background (center):
    • Cut 15 - 4 1/2” x 4 1/2” squares for pieced background.
    • Sew 3 squares x 5 squares as shown on selected pattern (and page 3 of pattern).
    • Optionally, use 12.5” x 20.5” whole cloth instead of pieced background center.
  • Piece the Border:
    • Cut 20 - 4 1/2” x 4 1/2” squares for pieced border. (July calls for STRIPS. Please check pattern and sew 20 strip blocks to use as 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" squares.)
    • Sew together 4 rows of 5 squares (resulting in 4 rows that are 4 1/2" x 20 1/2").
  • Attach Border to Background (center) - see page 3 of pattern:
    • Sew 2 of the borders to the sides of the Background. Press toward the borders.
    • Sew the top and bottom borders to the background. Press toward the borders.

Requirements: Cancellation Policy Thank you for signing up for a class at Not Your Mama's Quilt Store. Due to the high number of late-notice cancellations, our cancellation policy has been updated: All refunds are provided in the form of store credit. In the case that you are unable to attend the class, you must cancel at least 5 days prior to class date for a FULL refund* in store credit. If you cancel 4 days prior to class, there is a 50% forfeiture fee deducted from your class fee. You may choose to transfer to another class if available, with a $20 transfer fee plus additional registration fee if applicable. If you cancel 3 days or less prior to class, your class fee is 100% forfeited. Transfer to another class is not available with less than a 3 day cancellation. *If you paid for a class via PayPal or Credit Card and later need to cancel, a 10% cancellation fee will be deducted to cover service fees charged by PayPal and the credit card processing company.
